Hi, I'm Max. I'm a Canadian technologist currently based in Ottawa. I'm using technologist imprecisely here, but I'm generally optimistic about the good that technology can do in the world and I want to help explore those possibilities. Social media is the technology I feel the most curious about for the future and that's been the case since ~2020. From 2019 to 2024, I studied [Media Production and Design](https://carleton.ca/sjc/mediaproduction/) at Carleton University. In 2026, I completed my MA [Technology Governance and Sustainability](https://taltech.ee/en/masters-programmes/technology-governance-and-sustainability) at [Tallinn University of Technology](https://taltech.ee/en/our-story) in Estonia. I currently work as a consultant at [Fraser Nolet](https://www.frasernolet.com/en/), a technology governance and management consulting firm based in Gatineau. We mainly work with Inuit organizations in Nunavut to help make technology work for them. Outside of that work, I'm involved with a volunteer project at the [Rideau Community Hub](https://journalhosting.ucalgary.ca/index.php/cjeap/article/view/58375) called Commons Fabric. Some peers from [Ottawa Civic Tech](https://www.meetup.com/yow_ct/) and I started this initiative in Fall 2025 to research and develop open source alternatives to Big Tech platforms for local communities. We're trying to understand Ottawa youth's hopes for the future of the city and turn their statements into actionable electoral resources for the upcoming municipal election. Projects aside, these days I am enjoying video games, taking photos, camping, board games, and cooking. I'm also wanting to explore more of Ottawa and Canada. I'm still figuring out as I go what I want this blog to be. A general goal of mine is to create more and get comfortable putting my thoughts and words into the world.
